Local Student Big Band in concert at Burbage Church with Special Guest

Normally it’s the sound of the church organ and Choir but for one night only it will be trumpets trombones saxophones keyboards and rhythm as St Catherine’s Church Burbage hosts students from John Cleveland College Big Band for a concert on Saturday 20th June 2015 at 7.30pm

Admission to the Concert is free but the organisers hope that those who come will make a donation which will be divided equally between the Band and the Church. Refreshments will be available.

Band Leader Garry Sleath said “ I am grateful to the Churchwardens for offering the use of this unique venue in Burbage. This promises to be a fantastic evening. It provides an opportunity for some of the band members who are leaving JCC this year to play together in public one more time. They have worked and practised hard to achieve the current high standard of musicianship and have set the bar high for their replacements. We will be playing music by a wide variety of composers and arrangers from Glenn Miller to Carlos Santana. Also we have a special guest female jazz vocalist Karen Peacock in her 1st public appearance with the Band so hopefully something for everyone to enjoy. ”

Churchwarden Martin Mellor said “ We look forward to welcoming the JCC Big Band. Now that the considerable re-ordering of St. Catherine’s is complete we have an even better venue in which to continue our long tradition of hosting the finest musical and choral performances. Having heard the students play at a recent wedding reception I can assure those who come that they will have an evening of total enjoyment and pleasure.”
