COUNTRY SONGWRITER’S DEBUT SOLO GIG

Celtic Country performer G D Sweeney in conjunction with venue The Donkey, Leicester, announce the Irish-born, London based songwriter’s launch of his debut album, ‘The Truth About Lies’ on Friday 17th of April from 8pm.

G D Sweeney will be supported by many of Leicester’s premier musicians and supported by local talent Daryl Kirkland.

G D Sweeney, heralds from a culture of storytelling and a rich musical heritage. His Celtic Country new traditional style lends itself to the narratives and characters in his songs. This is accompanied by his long- standing love affair of bluegrass, folk melodies and classic Country sounds.

Gavin has fronted a number of bands and he has also performed and recorded with many established artists including members of ‘The Specials’, ‘Fun Lovin Criminals’ and ‘The South’.

Since 2005, The Donkey has not only built a reputation as an intimate venue, with a live-wire atmosphere, but for presenting low-key gigs by major name acts. Drawn by appreciative audiences and great sound the 200 capacity Victorian room has played host to such great acts as: Fun Lovin Criminals, The South, Seth Lakeman, Michelle Shocked, Uncle Frank and By The Rivers to name a small number.

Located just outside of the Leicester city centre and close to both of the Universities, the Donkey also boasts a large beer garden and car park, free WiFi and offers a wide range of lagers, bottled beer, wine and real ales as well as fresh ground coffee daily.
